There are essential oils that are more likely to cause allergic symptoms
of their own and they include cinnamon, sage, clove and hyssop.
If you have allergies, you should tell your aromatherapist about them
before beginning your aromatherapy treatment. These aromatherapy
professionals can then decide which essential oils to use and which to
avoid, in order to make your aromatherapy session relaxing and
refreshing, as they are meant to be.
An aromatherapist can also help you make a ‘prescription’ for your own
essential oil blend. You should never share your prescribed essential
oil blend, nor should you use someone else’s. Just as with everyday
prescription medication, essential oil blends are tailored to and
individual’s needs and boundaries. By using an essential oil blend that
was not made exclusively for you, you may cause an allergic reaction or
other harmful reaction. You wouldn’t take someone else’s prescription
medication from a doctor, nor should you use their essential oil blend.
If at any time during aromatherapy you experience an increase in allergy
symptoms, stop using the treatment immediately. Aromatherapy is meant to
be relaxing, not to induce stressful allergic reactions.
