Treating Insomnia

The essential oils that are best suited to helping you with your insomnia are:


Benzoin-An essential oil that serves as warming, relaxing sedative. It is commonly used for bronchitis and coughs, as well as exhaustion, tension and sleeplessness caused by worry.

German and Roman Chamomile-Chamomile induces sleep and calms upset stomachs and nerves. It is particularly good for use with children. It is commonly used as a treatment of insomnia and anxiety.

Jasmine-Jasmine is non-toxic and a non-irritant and is soothing and relaxing. It is commonly used as treatment for nervous exhaustion, insomnia and as an anti-depressant.

Lavender-A calming and soothing essential oil, Lavender is used to calm nerve and digestion, a pain reliever and anti-depressant, as well as helping to lower blood pressure. Lavender’s common uses are to cure insomnia, tension, depression, stomach cramps, shock, earache, and headache.

Melissa/Lemon Balm-Melissa is commonly used to lower blood pressure, help digestion, tension, depression, coughs and colds and as a cure for insomnia.

Neroli-An essential oil that is used nearly exclusively for insomnia caused by depression, pain, shock or anxiety.

Rose-This popular fragrance is used, as an essential oil, to relax and soothe. It is commonly used to treat depression, insomnia, tension, asthma, loss of sex drive and headaches.

Sandalwood-A relaxing, anti-depressant which cams digestion and is commonly used to treat depression, anxiety and insomnia.

Sweet Marjoram-This essential oil is comforting and warming and will help to calm down the nerves. Sweet Marjoram is used as a sedative to treat insomnia and anxiety.

Ylang Ylang and is commonly used to treat depression, stress, nervous tension, excitability and insomnia.
