There is a basic ‘top 10’ list of essential oils that are essential to have if you are interested in aromatherapy. These top 10 essential oils are also the most commonly used and help to diffuse a variety of physical and emotional ailments:

Chamomile is a very calming essential oil. It is commonly used to combat insomnia, indigestion, allergies, acne, eczema and other sensitive skin conditions.

Eucalyptus is an anti septic and is great for combating bronchitis, coughs and colds as well as rheumatic conditions.

Geranium is a mild astringent great for cuts, skin problems, bruises and as an anti-depressant.

Lavender is a mild analgesic and works great for headaches, insomnia, and curing mild depression.

Rose is useful for sore throats and sinuses, a cure for menopause and insomnia and also has properties of an aphrodisiac.

Rosemary is a mild stimulant and is quite useful for physical and mental fatigue, asthma and general calming and relaxation.

Sandalwood is an antiseptic and is good for skin problems and use as an aphrodisiac.

Marjoram is a mild analgesic and is good for head aches, sore throats, improving circulation and curing insomnia.

Jasmine is an antidepressant essential oil to help combat depression. However, it also strengthens contractions during labor for the birth of a baby, and shouldn’t be used by pregnant women until they are in labor.

Neroli is a mild sedative and is critical in combating insomnia and also great for curing nervous depression and anxiety.
