Sleep is a very important part of our everyday lives and contributes to
our overall well being. Sleep should be done with a relaxed mind to
obtain the proper levels of deeper sleep which allow our bodies to
rejuvenate, relax and refresh.
Chamomile, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Marjoram, Thyme, Coriander, Sandalwood
and Vetiver essential oils are the best-suited aromatherapy for
insomnia.
There are many methods of aromatherapy that you can utilize to help you
cure your insomnia and curb the side effects of sleeplessness. By adding
about 10 drops of essential oils to your bath water, letting it ‘soak’
for 10 or 15 minutes then take your bath right before going to bed. This
can help you relax enough and take your mind off of your stress and
worries so that you can get a good nights sleep.
Another method is to add a drop or two of an essential oil to your
pillow. Using Lavender in this method will produce the best benefits. By
adding the fragrance to your pillow, you will maintain your relaxed
state and get a nice, deep sleep.
Diffuser blends are also very helpful to aid in curbing insomnia. This
is done using an essential oil diffuser, which are available for
purchase. By diffusing oils of Lavender, Clary Sage or Chamomile, you
can increase the benefits of the soothing scents to ensure a good
night’s sleep.
As with all things, before you start a treatment involving aromatherapy,
you should consult your doctor. Especially if you are pregnant, have
high blood pressure or are taking any medications. Some essential oils
will harm an undeveloped fetus or cause it to spontaneously abort, or
cause a woman to go into premature labor. With medications and high
blood pressure, the effects that can be caused by aromatherapy can, in
some but few cases, be nearly fatal or fatal.
