The use of fragrances derived from plants, called Essential oils, has
been around for well over 4,000 years and was coined aromatherpayı by
Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist in the early 1920s.
The main concern about using aromatherapy during pregnancy is if it is a
safe practice for both mother and child. Primarily, whether you are
pregnant or not, but especially if you are pregnant, you should talk to
your doctor about introducing aromatherapy into your life during
pregnancy.
Aromatherapy should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy
all together. The fetus in-utero is developing at a quick pace, and some
essential oils can be harmful to fetal development.
Aromatherapy has, however, been used by pregnant women for years. In
todayıs modern society, many women are opting out of mainstream pain
medications that are used during pregnancy and opting for a regiment of
self-hypnosis to increase relaxation, massage, audio therapy and
aromatherapy.
Daily massage throughout pregnancy can also increase blood flow and make
an incredible difference to your mood if you are pregnant. Mix Lavender,
Chamomile, Sandalwood or Frankincense with plain sweet almond oil or
another carrier and have someone massage your back for 10 minutes to
help balance out your emotions and help keep you relaxed.
Before trying out any essential oils or aromatherapy, remember to check
with your doctor. There are potentially fatal side effects for your
fetus if you go willy-nilly into the vast world of aromatherapy without
some guidance from your doctor, or at least a qualified aromatherapist.
