Aromatherapy and Insomnia

Aromatherapy can aid sufferers of insomnia..

Aromatherapy - the use of essential oils as a fragrance - can aid people who suffer from insomnia or other sleep related troubles. By utilizing the right essential oils as a cure for insomnia, people who suffer from sleeping troubles can, in most cases, avoid the use of sleeping pills and other medications to aid in sleep.

To start out, a relaxing bath with Roman Chamomile and Geranium essential oils will help people to unwind before they hit the sheets. Finishing off with a cup of chamomile tea will also help to complete the relaxation process.

Causes of Insomnia

There are often a lot of factors that play a part in insomnia sufferers, for example, stress, problems at home, with family, at work, school or with their health. Other factors include imbibing too much caffeine, drugs, nicotine or alcohol. Essential oils are capable of helping to ease the symptom of insomnia, but will do nothing to prevent the underlying causes if excessive intake of depressants like nicotine and caffeine are continued.

Medications can also interfere with sleep and produce insomnia symptoms. If you are taking medication, it is important to discuss with your doctor or aromatherapist the use of any essential oils. Some interaction can be found between essential oil aromatherapy and some medications and the results can be severe.
