Using Essential Oils to Create a Home Spa

An important consideration when selecting aromatherapy beauty products for your home spa treatments is your skin type.

While many people will indulge in the papering of a spa treatment for special occasions, many do not realize that they can get the pleasure of these treatments much more often. All they need to do is schedule some time to pamper and renew themselves on a regular basis.

The real sign of our inner health and beauty is our skin. Our skin, for example, will be the first sign of our overindulgence in food that is unhealthy. Our skin will exude a healthy glow if you eat a well balanced diet, drink plenty of water, and get adequate exercise. We can help nurture healthy skin and the warm glow it provides by using products with natural ingredients, such as essential oils, cold pressed unscented oils and hydrosols.

An important consideration when selecting aromatherapy beauty products for your home spa treatments is your skin type. You will need products for cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin when you are giving yourself that facial. You will also want to add in the occasional exfoliating treatment and mask for additional pampering. Below you will find the perfect recipe for that at home spa facial.

  • First wash your skin using a gentle cleansing product. You can unclog your pours prior to your facial by using a light steam treatment. You can stimulate your skin and remove any dirt by using upward circular movements as you cleanse. When you are done, rinse your face using warm water and pat it dry with a soft towel.

  • You can achieve the proper pH balance by toning your skin after it is clean. Toner is usually best applied using a soft cotton pad. Apply the toner all over your face and neck, being sure to avoid the sensitive areas around the eyes. One of the best toners to achieve proper skin pH is apple cider vinegar.

  • You are now ready to moisturize your skin. Use patting motions to apply oil over your skin while it is still damp from the toner. This will seal in the moisture. Apply only once over oily areas, but twice over dry areas, being sure to wait 2 to 3 minutes between applications. You will get the maximum moisturizing effect if you moisten the skin with water between applications.

Below are some products you can make yourself to use in your facial.

  • You can create a rose cream cleanser by combining the following ingredients: 1 Tbsp of sour cream, 1 tsp rose hydrosol, and 2 tsp of extra virgin olive oil. This mixture should be used to cleanse the face and neck, and thrown away after sitting for two days.

  • For a wonderful toner, try the following: Heat up 1 cup of distilled water until it is boiling. While it is still hot, add 1 tbsp dried green tea leaves and 1tbsp dried chamomile flowers. Strain the mixture once it has steeped for 15-20 minutes. Then add 1 tbsp rose hydrosol, 1 tbsp Aloe Vera gel and 3 tbsp apple cider vinegar. Shake well to combine the ingredients. This mixture can be stored in a clean bottle and used for up to three weeks.

  • You can create a moisturizing oil that has the added benefits of aromatherapy by combining 3 tbsp each of jojoba and rose hip seed oil, 2 drops each of rose, geranium and palmarose essential oils and 3 drops lavender essential oil. The mixture should be well blended and can be stored in a clean bottle for everyday use.
