Essential oils are described by their note: top note, middle note and
base note. This description relates to the rate at which the essential
oil evaporates. Top notes are strongly scented and the most uplifting
oils, such as Clary Sage, Lemongrass, Peppermint and Thyme.
Middle notes are the next longest lasting and usually affect metabolic
and body functions. They are less fragrant that top note oils and
include chamomile, geranium, lavender and rosemary.
Base note oils are the slowest oils to evaporate, have a sweet, soothing
scent and help to relax and comfort the body. Examples of base note
essential oils are jasmine, cedarwood, clove and sandalwood.
