Anxiety, Apathy and Depression

Emotional distress can sometimes be alleviated with essential oils.

Anxiety

Anxiety is one form of emotional distress that can be alleviated with essential oils. Signs of anxiety include dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea, and hot flashes or chills. Use bergamot, lavender, and cedar wood to help with anxiety in a bath or as a massage oil, not as an inhalation.

Apathy

If you are not feeling interested, concerned or emotional at all, you may be experiencing apathy. Although this may not sound serious, it can become a problem when you stop caring about the people or things around you. Feelings of apathy can even lead to a lack of concern about your own well-being. To aid with apathy, use grapefruit, basil, and peppermint in your bath, as a massage oil, or as an inhalation.

Depression

Depression affects sleeping and eating patterns. It attacks your self-confidence and distorts the way you think about yourself and about the people around you. Depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, heredity, stress, a traumatic life even, or lack of exercise. To treat depression, combine neroli, jasmine, and lavender as a bath treatment, massage oil, or inhalation.

Grief

Grief generally occurs after a substantial loss, such as the ending of a relationship or the death of a loved one. Death is a natural stage in the process toward acceptance, but it can be easier to cope with by using a combination of rose and frankincense in a bath, as a massage oil, or as an inhalation.
