Carrier Oils Used in Aromatherapy

The essential oils that are used in aromatherapy are very concentrated, and therefore very powerful.

When used in an undiluted form that can have a negative impact on the skin. While there are some essential oils that can be placed directly onto the skin, in general it is a good idea to always dilute essential oils into carrier oils.

Carrier oils do much more than just dilute the oils. They help with the overall absorption of the essential oil by providing lubrication to the hands that are rubbing the oil into the skin. The best carrier oils are 100% pure and easily absorbed by the body. They should be light and non-sticky, processed only with cold presses and un-refined.

To create a 1% dilution of essential oil, place 1 drop of essential oil into 1 tsp of carrier oil. For a 2% dilution you would place 2 drops of essential oil into 1 tsp of carrier oil.
